The 8th edition of the Malta International Fireworks Festival will be organised by the Parliamentary Secretariat for Tourism and the Malta Tourism Authority.

The Grand Harbour will once again provide the perfect setting for this edition, which will take place on Thursday, April 30 and Friday May 1. The festival opens with a 15-minute fireworks display, which is designed by a foreign pyrotechnic company and will take place at 2130hrs on 30 April. This will be followed by a set of fireworks displays by numerous factories in a ‘one by one' series. For each category, there is a trophy as well as prize money to be won.

Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy the spectacle free. The best locations for viewing the displays are Ta' Liesse / Lascaris Wharf or else the top of the bastions that surround Malta's capital and have commanding views over Grand Harbour.

The festival also serves to commemorate Malta's accession into the European Union on 1st May 2004.

AMSTERDAM - Op 30 april en 1 mei aanstaande gaat het knallen op Malta, dan barst op het eiland namelijk het "Malta International Fireworks festival" los. Dit festival, dat jaarlijks wordt georganiseerd door onder meer de Malta Tourism Authority is een must voor iedere vuurliefhebber.

Vuurwerkeiland

Malta wordt ook wel het vuurwerkeiland genoemd. Meer dan 35 vuurwerkfabriekjes produceren hier hun eigen vuurwerk, dat jaarlijks wordt afgestoken ter ere van de beschermheilige van hun dorp. Deze bedrijven zijn niet commercieel en werken voornamelijk met experts die op vrijwillige basis hun passie uitoefenen. Het spectaculaire vuurwerk dat op Malta wordt gemaakt wordt wereldwijd als uniek beschouwd en het vuurwerkfestival is dan ook een "once in a life time" ervaring voor elke bezoeker.

Europese Unie

In samenwerking met het Parlementair secretariaat voor Toerisme organiseert de Malta Tourism Authority jaarlijks dit internationale vuurwerkfestival in de Grand Harbour in de hoofdstad Valletta. Deze historische haven is een perfecte setting voor dit evenement, dat dit jaar plaats zal vinden op 30 april en 1 mei. Tevens zal tijdens dit festival worden gevierd dat Malta op 1 mei 2004 lid werd van de Europese Unie.

Muziekshow

Op beide avonden zal het festival om 21.30 uur losbarsten met een 15 minuten durende vuurwerkshow van buitenlandse vuurwerkmakers van over de hele wereld. Daarna zullen 13 lokale vuurwerkbedrijfjes hun kunsten vertonen. In beide categorieën is een toffee en een pot met prijzengeld te winnen. De avonden zullen worden afgesloten met een daverende vuurwerk-en muziekshow.

De Maltezer archipel

De Maltezer archipel bestaat uit drie eilanden: Malta, Gozo en Comino. De talen zijn Maltees en Engels. De eilanden liggen strategisch in het hart van de Mediterranee: 93 km ten zuiden van Sicilië en 288 km ten noorden van Afrika. Ruim zevenduizend jaar geschiedenis heeft geresulteerd in een fascinerende cultuur van eclectische tradities en gebruiken. Langs de romantische straatjes van Malta's steden en dorpen staan talloze kathedralen en paleizen. Op het platteland tref je 's werelds oudste ruïnes. Tel daarbij op het zonovergoten klimaat, de gastvrije bevolking en een bruisend nachtleven en het wordt duidelijk waarom Malta de belangrijkste culturele bestemming van Europa is.

Bereikbaarheid

Air Malta vliegt dagelijks in 3 uur vanaf Schiphol naar Malta.

An event not to be missed!!


The Malta International Fireworks Festival 2009 will be held on the 30th April and 1st May 2009.


Malta Fireworks have been chosen as the main coordinators for this event.

The Grand Harbour will once again provide the perfect setting for this event. The festival will also serve as part of the programme commemorating Malta’s European Union accession which took place on the 1st of May 2004.

Ta’ Liesse / Lascaris Wharf, as well as the uppermost reaches of the bastions that surround Malta’s capital with their commanding views over Grand Harbour, will serve as the best vantage points to view the displays over the two evenings of the festival.


It is well known throughout the pyro-world that certain fireworks which one can enjoy in the island of Malta are unique and that's why it's a must for every fireworks enthusiast or pyrotechnician to be in Malta for at least once in a lifetime.


This year, 4 pyromusical displays of 15 minutes each will be presented, 3 of which will form part of a competition. Apart from the pyromusical displays, a competition of traditional Maltese fireworks shells will also be presented. This will include various categories including best ball shells, best multi break shells, best coloured shells, etc. 12 local fireworks factories form part of this competition.

Thursday 30th April

21.30 hrs The first competitive pyromusical display by Proformance Pyrotechnics - Australia (15 minutes display)

22.00 hrs A competition of traditional Maltese fireworks shells including multi break cracker shells and multi break coloured shells. 12 local fireworks factories will be in competition.

24.00 hrs The second competitive pyromusical display by Jorge Vaccalluzzo Zio Piro – Italy (15 minutes display)


Friday 1st May

21.00 hrs The third competitive pyromusical display by Nakaja Art – Poland (15 minutes display)

21.30 hrs The competition of the traditional unique Maltese fireworks shells continues…..

24.00 hrs Grand fireworks display synchronized to music and designed by Malta Fireworks – Malta (15 minutes display)

leuk om de filmpjes te zien! Wij hebben de 1e avond vanaf een houten zeilschip gekeken, welke gelukkig wel tot het einde bleef! alle andere boten gingen er eerder vandoor, blij dat we daar niet op zaten!

ik verheug me al op de filmpjes van de show van australie (de laatste) echt prachtig en een top finale!

tijdens de wedstrijden van de lokale bedrijven met de meerslagen cillinders viel er een tot op het ponton waar de show van australie klaar stond. hierdoor knalde er een flink deel van de show al weg..dat was wel heftig.

de malteese bedrijfjes houden echt van herrie maken..echt heerlijk die meerslagen bommen met die keiharde titanium crackling:)
 
Waanzinnig weer!
Goed te zien dat er op dit festival steeds meer echt maltees vuurwerk word gebruikt. Telkens meer echt maltese onderdelen waar onder het ''one by one'' schieten van de malteser kunstwerken.

Dikke kans dat ik volgend jaar weer 2 dagen aanwezig ben bij dit fesitval, maar ook in augustus ga ik naar malta om van het vuurwerk te genieten volgend jaar :)

in dit filmpje word op 1.56 min de shell afgeschoten die een deel van de show van australie de lucht in liet gaan, iemand hier beeld materiaal van? hier is het er net uitgeknipt:(

na de show van australie ging men nog even door met de wedstrijden, toen werden denk ik vooral shells geschoten uit catogorie D en E, deze gaven echter een dusdanige dreun dat bij iedere shell er auto alarmen afgingen.

Fireworks Festival winners announced

The Malta Tourism Authority has announced the winners of the various categories of the Malta Fireworks Festival, held over the last weekend.

The international pyro-musical competition was won by Proformance Pyrotechnics (Australia) followed by Nakaja Art (Poland) and Vaccalluzzo Zio Piro (Italy)

The following were the winners of the traditional Maltese firework shells competitions:

Malta Fireworks Festival 2009 - Winner ProFormance Pyrotechnics - Australia

The 2009 Malta International Fireworks Festival is finished with ProFormance Pyrotechnics of Australia placing 1st Place against Malta, Italy and Poland.

The display consisted of 1600 shells fired in a 15 minute Pyromusical themed to various stage production soundtracks. the title being "The Show Must Go On". Earlier in the evening prior to the firing of the ProFormance Pyrotechnics display, a Maltese 8" Cylinder Multibreak shell landed on the firing platform and ignited almost 170 5" and 6" Display shells in an instant. This caused major problems from the Australian team, which then had to isolate various modules for safety reasons in order to allow their display to still fire at the Midnight time slot. Even though the display had some technical problems due to this stray 8" salute , it still was voted as the best of the festival.
